The FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific is joining the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and UN Women to commemorate International Women’s Day 2025 under the theme “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” The year 2025 is a pivotal moment in the global pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment, as it marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
FAO will host a roundtable discussion titled "Empowering Women and Girls for Agrifood Systems Transformation: Regional Insights on Innovations to Accelerate Change," which, building on the outcomes of the Beijing+30 review process, will bring together a diverse group of voices—from governments and the private sector to civil society—to share innovative strategies and solutions that are making a real impact across Asia and the Pacific.
The event takes place on Thursday, 06 March 2025 15.30 - 16.30hrs ICT (GMT +7) at ESCAP Hall, United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, and online. Join us to explore how we can create a more inclusive and empowering future for all women and girls!
The IWD 2025 roundtable organized by FAO will:
- Advocate gender-responsive and transformative actions, promote investments and facilitate regional collaboration and action among diverse stakeholders to advance women’s rights and gender equality for agrifood systems transformation.
- Reflect on progress since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in Asia and the Pacific and share innovative strategies and practices for advancing gender equality and women's empowerment in agrifood systems, focusing on national and regional contexts.
- Increase awareness of gender-based inequalities in agrifood systems and discuss national and regional strategies, practices and lessons aligned with the Beijing+30 agenda for promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.
