Bilateral meeting with H.E. Masadik Masood Malik, Federal Minister for Water Resources of Pakistan

Bangkok – The FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with H.E. Masadik Masood Malik, Federal Minister of Water Resources of Pakistan, on the margins of the International Soil and Water Forum 2024 taking place in Bangkok.
The Director-General welcomed the Federal Minister and expressed gratitude for his participation in the Forum. QU appreciated the strong collaboration between FAO and Pakistan and its willingness to engage in global cooperation towards achieving sustainable and inclusive agricultural development.
The Federal Minister thanked FAO for its extensive work in the Country and emphasized the importance of improving agriculture and water management in Pakistan, as well as the need to bolster climate resilience. The Federal Minister highlighted three key areas for deepening collaboration, which included improving Pakistan’s water management systems, enhancing the productivity of key crops for improved food security, and value addition in the Country’s economy, and fostering an innovation ecology to build resilience and underpin sustainable agricultural development.
The Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in transforming its agrifood system. QU encouraged the Country to realise its full potential in scaling up and sharing best practices in the production of mangoes, cashews and other crops that play a significant role in Pakistan’s agricultural economy. The Director-General looked forward to strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and FAO and mobilizing resources towards common objectives.
