Introduction The purpose of the Program was to achieve Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 7, Environmental Sustainability, while advancing the achievement of MDG 1 to End Poverty and Hunger, promoting the community management of biodiversity and natural resources by vulnerable populations, by contributing to the protection of fundamental rights of Isolated Indigenous Peoples (IIP) that inhabit the Yasuní Biosphere Reserve .

Objective / Goal The conservation and sustainable management of the natural and cultural heritage of the Yasuní biosphere are part of the national priorities of the Government of Ecuador that can be identified in their National Plan of Good Living (NPGL). This program worked with 28 communities from the Yasuni Biosphere Reserve and was implemented by various agencies in partnership with the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador (MAE), including FAO, UNIFEM, UNDP, UNESCO, UN-HABITAT and UNWTO.
