Bilateral meeting with H.E. Ahmet Bagci, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye

Rome - FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, and H.E. Ahmet Bagci, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye, met on the sidelines of the 44th Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference, to discuss long-standing collaboration between FAO and Türkiye.

The Deputy Minister noted that Türkiye enjoys close collaboration with the Organization and highlighted that the FAO Subregional office, is based in the country, played an important role in the region. He added that the FAO-Türkiye Partnership Programmes (FTPP), currently being renewed for the third phase, was mainly focused on agriculture and forestry and provided a framework for cooperation with countries assisted by FAO’s Subregional Office for Central Asia, as well as countries in the Balkans and in Africa.

The Director-General noted that Türkiye was an important partner for FAO and appreciated the fruitful collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. He added that had established the FAO Museum and Network to mark FAO’s 80th Anniversary, and invited Türkiye to use the platform to promote its agriculture and technology.

Both also discussed the ongoing reform of the FAO Country Offices aimed at making the Organization more responsive to Member needs and priorities by strengthening its decentralized structure and management system.
