Bilateral meeting with H.E. Franklyn Derick Wasi, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock of the Solomon Islands

Rome - During the 44th Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference, the FAO Director-General met with H.E. Franklyn Derick Wasi, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock of the Solomon Islands, together with his delegation.

The Director-General warmly welcomed the Minister and expressed appreciation for the Solomon Islands’ continued engagement with FAO. The Minister conveyed his gratitude for the Director-General’s leadership and for FAO’s steadfast support to the country’s agricultural development. He made special mention of the FAO Food and Agriculture Museum & Network (MuNe), and on behalf of Solomon Islands, presented two traditional wooden artifacts as a gesture of friendship and cultural exchange.

The Director-General thanked the Minister for this meaningful contribution, assuring that the items would be preserved and displayed at the MuNe, and encouraged Solomon Islands to continue showcasing its unique agricultural and cultural traditions.

The Minister highlighted the progress made by the Solomon Islands in advancing its agrifood sector, including initiatives that had improved food security and nutrition. He noted the country’s active engagement in FAO-led initiatives and underscored the importance of continued partnership with FAO to strengthen national agricultural capacity. He also shared ongoing collaboration with international and regional partners aimed at enhancing domestic production and promoting sustainable practices.

The Director-General commended the Solomon Islands for its efforts and reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to supporting the country’s priorities through concrete actions and strengthened cooperation.

The Minister concluded by reiterating the Solomon Islands’ trust in FAO as a key partner in its development journey. The Director-General welcomed the confidence afforded to FAO and reaffirmed the Organization’s readiness to further deepen collaboration.
