Bilateral meeting with H.E. Gilberto Silva, Minister for Agriculture and the Environment of Cabo Verde

Rome - The FAO Director-General met with H.E. Gilberto Silva, Minister for Agriculture and the Environment of Cabo Verde on the sidelines of the 44th Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference.

The Director-General welcomed the Minister together with his delegation, and the pair recalled the Director-General’s visit to Cabo Verde. The Director-General congratulated Cabo Verde for 50 years of independence, as well as its good economic performance within the region.

The Minister thanked the Director-General for receiving him and commented on the smooth running of ongoing FAO financed projects in Cabo Verde, and the good progress in their implementation. The Minister was also pleased to inform of the very recent graduation of Cabo Verde to Medium-Income Country, noting that this new classification entailed both new responsibilities and new challenges in efforts to address poverty and unemployment.

The Minister seized this opportunity to thank all the partners who had accompanied his country in this journey and emphasized that they continued to count on FAO’s support.

The Director General congratulated Cabo Verde, and requested the Minister to convey his congratulations also the President of Cabo Verde, on the new status and expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between Cabo Verde and FAO. He also reiterated FAO’s commitment to support the country, particularly in the areas of science, innovations and infrastructure.
