Bilateral meeting with H.E. Jiang Wensheng, Vice Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China

Rome - On the sidelines of the 44th Session of the FAO Conference, the FAO Director-General met with H.E. Jiang Wensheng, Vice Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

The Director-General welcomed Vice Minister Jiang to FAO Headquarters and commended China’s long-standing and substantial support to FAO’s mandate. He recognized China’s achievements in agricultural and rural development as a valuable model, particularly in the context of sustainable transformation.

The Director-General stressed the need for enhanced international support for vulnerable groups, including Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), underlining their central role in global poverty eradication efforts. He emphasized the importance of enabling policies in accelerating development outcomes and encouraged strengthened collaboration between China and FAO, including through the South-South and Triangular Cooperation programme.

The Director-General further welcomed China’s potential to host study visits showcasing best practices, such as wetland management, and looked forward to China’s participation in the upcoming celebrations of FAO’s 80th anniversary.

Vice Minister Jiang reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening cooperation with FAO through joint efforts such as through China-FAO South-South Cooperation, in support of the Global South and vulnerable countries’s transformation of agrifood systems.
