Bilateral meeting with H.E. Luiz Paulo Teixeira, Minister for Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture of the Federative Republic of Brazil

Rome – The FAO Director-General met with H.E. Luiz Paulo Teixeira, the Minister for Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture of the Federative Republic of Brazil, on the sidelines of the 44th Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference at FAO headquarters.
The Director-General welcomed the Minister and commended the long-standing partnership with Brazil, recalling his recent visits to Brazil, including for G20 meetings during the Brazilian Presidency in 2024, and praised the Brazilian authorities’ commitment to ending hunger and achieving the SDGs and beyond, including through South-South and Triangular Cooperation initiatives. The Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue strengthening collaboration with Brazil.
The Minister thanked the Director-General and stressed that Brazil highly esteemed its partnership with FAO, highlighting the instrumental role of FAO in hosting the Support Mechanism for the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, as well as its role in catalyzing support to transform global agrifood systems.
The Minister also mentioned the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will take place in Brazil in November 2025. He noted that, during the conference, Brazil would showcase its progress in forest restoration, productive forestry, coordinated protection of the Amazon, and food sovereignty.
The Director-General appreciated the initiatives highlighted by the Minister, and also referred to the 39th FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC39), which was scheduled to take place in Brazil in 2026.
Both parties agreed to strengthen their collaboration further with the aim of to create more resilient, efficient, inclusive, and sustainable agrifood systems that align with FAO’s mandate and the government’s priorities.
