Bilateral meeting with H.E. Tibisay León, Vice-Minister for Productive Agriculture at the Ministry of People’s Power for Agricultural Production and Land of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

Rome – The FAO Director-General met today with H.E. Tibisay León, Vice-Minister for Productive Agriculture at the Ministry of People’s Power for Agricultural Production and Land of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, on the sidelines of the 44th Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference.

The Director-General welcomed Vice-Minister León and the Venezuelan delegation and reflected on the Organization’s enduring partnership with Venezuela.

Vice-Minister León thanked the Director-General and provided an overview of Venezuela’s agriculture sector, including the challenges arising from economic measures in place. The delegation also informed of current plans and initiatives to strengthen agricultural production and value chains within rural communities, incorporating the private sector.

The Vice-Miniter also mentioned major agricultural reforms, including communal farms and family farming initiatives, which aim to ensure food security for Venezuelans in line with the new government plan for the period 2025—2031.

The Director-General commended the Government for the efforts underway and looked forward to strengthening collaboration going forward, in particular for the transformation of Venezuela’s agrifood system to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable in support of food security and nutrition.
