Bilateral meeting with H.E. Ángel Manuel Manero Campos, Minister for Agrarian Development and Irrigation of the Republic of Peru

Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met H.E. Ángel Manuel Manero Campos, Minister for Agrarian Development and Irrigation of the Republic of Peru on the sidelines of the World Food Forum 2024 at FAO headquarters in Rome.

The Director-General welcomed the Minister to the World Food Forum and acknowledged Peru's and other Andean countries' significant contribution to the world through the spread of potatoes and their diverse varieties. The Director-General thanked Peru for its support to FAO and praised its rich culinary traditions and food culture.

Minister Manero expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the Director-General and emphasized the importance of the FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative, particularly its success in developing processed native potatoes for export, a symbol of Peru's agricultural potential. He also highlighted other key products like alpaca wool, coffee, cacao, and avocado, which are crucial for local producers facing challenges due to price fluctuations.

The Director-General announced his participation in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Lima, November 2024, where he will have the opportunity to discuss Peru's potential with President Dina Boluarte. He expressed strong belief in Peru's ability to attract investment and mobilize support.
