This side event at the 52nd Plenary Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 52) will present findings from a recent review of social protection for rural populations within the existing portfolio of the UNFCCC climate funds that explored how to scale-up and strengthen the role of social protection in inclusive climate action for rural and agrifood system dependent populations.
Building on the findings of the review alongside country experiences from Brazil and Mozambique in designing, implementing and financing social protection programmes that deliver inclusive climate action, it will bring together key stakeholders from different CFS constituencies to reflect on their experiences of bridging the gap between those working on social protection, agrifood systems and climate change to deliver sustainable, resilient and inclusive food systems that leave no-one behind.
This hybrid event is co-organised by FAO, the Green Climate Fund, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO, UK), and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ, Germany) and live translation will be available in both French and Spanish.
Objectives
- Raise awareness of the role of social protection in delivering inclusive and resilient climate action for agrifood system dependent rural populations
