WFF Kenya Youth Chapter leads the way at the Kenya National Food Systems Summit 2025

The World Food Forum (WFF) Kenya Youth Chapter took the stage at the Kenya National Food Systems Summit held from 15-16 April 2025 in Nairobi. Members of the Chapter actively contributed across the summit, from planning and moderating sessions to hosting exhibitions and engaging in policy dialogues, demonstrating strong youth leadership in agrifood systems transformation and aligning with the broader goals of the United Nations Food Systems Summit.
Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development of Kenya, the summit brought together over 700 participants, including government leaders, civil society, academia, youth networks, private sector actors, Indigenous communities and international organizations. The event aimed at assessing progress and preparing for the second UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) taking place in Ethiopia in July 2025. The Chapter utilized the summit to integrate agrifood systems into broader national and county development frameworks. In collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Country Office in Kenya, the Chapter co-hosted an exhibition booth that showcased youth-led initiatives.
Christine Karanja, Steering Lead of the Chapter, delivered opening remarks at the World Café focus group discussion, a youth and women side event. These discussions contributed to the Youth and Women Declaration draft, submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture as input towards the UNFSS+4.
The success of the summit reflected strong leadership by Kenyan youth and the FAO Country Office in advancing sustainable agrifood systems transformation. From 7-9 May 2025, Kenya also hosted the Africa Regional Preparatory Meeting ahead of UNFSS+4, reinforcing the country's commitment to national progress, regional collaboration and agrifood systems leadership.
The Kenya National Food Systems Summit concluded with renewed commitment across all levels and reaffirmed the message that transforming agrifood systems is a continuous journey that requires partnerships, innovation and accountability.
