Nutrition

2025 marks the first year in which the Youth Assembly will hold sessions and consultations on the thematic area of nutrition. Objectives include gathering and identifying priority areas within the theme for youth, especially around the intersection of nutrition, diets, climate change and sustainability. Outcomes from various consultations will then be put forth in the international fora for further uptake into intergovernmental processes.

2025 engagements

The Youth Assembly participated in the Nutrition4Growth Summit in March 2025, which provided a World Food Forum (WFF) Young Scientist, Ana Luiza Domingos, with the opportunity to participate in the panels of two side events.

The first side event, “Investing in Integrated Climate and Nutrition Actions”, was co-hosted by Standing Together for Nutrition, Micronutrient Forum, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and the International Food Policy Research Institute.

The second side event, “The Traditional Roots of Resilience: Promoting Indigenous Food Systems for Climate Action”, was co-hosted by Global Citizen, Act4Food and GAIN.

Key youth priorities that emerged from these engagements included:

  • integrating climate and nutrition policies effectively;
  • ensuring a more cohesive approach to tackling interconnected challenges by strengthening collaboration between countries, improving data collection, mobilizing financing and engaging the private sector;
  • emphasizing biodiversity, resilience, cultural identity, nutrition, food security and health as being at the heart of Indigenous and traditional food systems;
  • receiving bold commitments from all stakeholders; and
  • financing and scaling Indigenous food systems to create a pathway to a just and sustainable future.

Tentative 2025–2026 engagements

In 2025, a Thematic Youth Assembly session on nutrition will be held to identify and streamline youth policy priorities, and this will be augmented by an online survey. The outcomes from this session will then feed into two streams: the UN Food Systems Summit +4 Stocktake and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity to explore the relationship between biodiversity and nutrition.

At the 2025 WFF flagship event, discussions will take place for moving from policy to action, and will potentially include a capacity development session with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Technical Divisions.
