Background
The UN System in Zambia has identified four strategic priority areas under the UNSDCF: 2023- 2027, that is, “Prosperity”, “People”, “Peace”, and “Planet”, (4Ps) and aligned to Zambia’s 8NDP, in contributing to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) espoused in the 2030 Agenda. Programme interventions will target all people in Zambia, particularly women and youth, including the marginalized and vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities and people living with HIV/AIDS, in both rural and urban areas: generally, without leaving anyone behind.
Within the context of the UNSDCF: 2023-2027, FAO’s interventions and engagements will be in its core relevant sectors and of comparative advantage, namely, Agriculture (crops and livestock), Fisheries and Aquaculture, Forestry, Environment, and other Natural Resources, including cross-cutting issues (Gender, HIV/AIDS, etc.). Interactions of the agriculture sector with energy will also be considered.
Five (5) priority focus areas for the CPF: 2023-2027 have been identified and selected. This is in pursuit to contribute to the overall FAO vision and global goals, FAO’s aspirations for Four Betters, and to Zambia’s vision and goals, in particular, through the relevant strategic priorities as espoused in the Country’s national development policies, strategies and plans, including the UNSDCF 2023-2027, the UNCCA process, the FAO CPF 2017-2022 review, and the multi-stakeholder consultations.
These CPF’s priority focus areas have been clustered as follows:
- Priority focus area 1: Increased and Gender Responsive Productivity and Production, and enhanced Research and Development (Crops, Livestock, Capture Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Forestry).
- Priority focus area 2: Inclusive Agri-business Development, Marketing and Trading.
- Priority focus area 3: Inclusive Green Growth and Environmental Sustainability.
- Priority focus area 4: Nutrition and Food Systems enhancement, and Social Protection,
- Priority focus area 5: Inclusive and Gender Responsive Policy Development and Implementation.
