Upcycle a T-shirt – sustainable fashion workshop with Food Hero Matteo Ward

On 16 October 2024, FAO headquarters hosted two “Upcycle a T-shirt” workshops, led by activist and Food Hero Matteo Ward, to raise awareness about sustainable fashion among young people. The workshop taught participants that small imperfections in clothing don’t mean they should be discarded. They learned how to recycle and reinvent old clothes, promoting everyday sustainability. Inspired by the book "Story of a t-shirt", the workshop allowed children to transform old shirts into personalized bags using colourful stencils. This activity introduced them to the world of clothing, highlighting the connection between textiles and natural resources, while encouraging reflection on the impact of their choices and contributing to environmental protection.
