Agrifood Leadership Education Programme

The World Food Forum's (WFF) Agrifood Leadership Education Programme (ALEP) is a transformative initiative aimed at empowering youth to become catalysts for change in agrifood systems. In partnership with Real Food Systems (RFS), the programme is designed to provide young leaders with essential tools, skills and mentorship, to equip them to make a tangible impact on the future of agrifood systems.

Three pillars

Through WFF Masterclasses, participants will explore various topics to develop their technical knowledge and soft skills to become successful agents of change for agrifood systems transformation.
Participants will have access to presentations by young agrifood systems experts, researchers and WFF award winners who will share their experiences, including challenges, outcomes and lessons learned.
Participants will gain experience to become leaders in agrifood systems transformation by formulating their own projects in their local contexts, with support from their mentors and WFF National Chapters.

Through this unique learning experience, participants will enhance their communication and leadership skills. The programme advances both technical knowledge across FAO’s 4 Betters and essential soft skills to support young leaders in addressing complex challenges facing agrifood systems. Furthermore, programme graduates will serve as next year’s cohort of mentors, fostering a global sense of community of young leaders.

Application process

ALEP is currently open to applicants aged 18 to 35 (on 31 December 2024) who are passionate about agrifood systems and meet specific criteria, including enrollment in a related academic field and relevant professional or volunteer experience. The programme prioritizes strengthening established WFF National Chapters, accepting applicants from within these countries. The programme also particularly encourages applications from young women.
