2nd UN Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+4)

28/07/2025 - 30/07/2025

The UN Food Systems Coordination Hub has announced the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+4), set to take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 28 to 30 July 2025. Building on the outcomes of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and UNFSS+2 in 2023, the event will focus on accelerating the transformation towards sustainable, inclusive and resilient food systems.

Ethiopia, recognized for its leadership during UNFSS+2, will host the event, co-hosted by Italy, a longstanding advocate for food systems transformation.

Progress and accountability

With five years remaining until the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development deadline, UNFSS+4 will:

  • Showcase country-level transformations and innovative food systems practices.
  • Address challenges in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
  • Shape the global narrative on sustainable development.
  • Foster synergies across key SDG transitions.

Objectives of UNFSS+4

The draft concept note highlights the following objectives:

  • Documenting progress: Evaluating achievements, identifying lessons learned, and scaling transformative solutions.
  • Strengthening accountability: Engaging stakeholders in mechanisms to track commitments and assess progress.
  • Unlocking investments: Identifying opportunities to finance innovations and mobilize climate and development finance.
  • The preparatory process will be inclusive and participatory, drawing from national reviews, regional meetings, and stakeholder engagements.

UNFSS+4 will drive collective action towards transforming food systems for people, the planet, and shared prosperity, accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.
