Celebration of the 1st World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day (Paris, France)

20/03/2025 - 21/03/2025

The inaugural World Day for Glaciers will be celebrated alongside World Water Day on 20–21 March 2025 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. Organized as part of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025, this high-level event will address the growing challenges arising by glacier melt and its impacts on global water security, ecosystems, and communities.

The event will include the launch of the 2025 World Water Development Report, titled "High Mountains and Glaciers," which highlights the critical role glaciers play in sustaining water supplies and maintaining ecosystem stability. It will also mark the beginning of the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025–2034), a global initiative to advance research and foster international cooperation on the impacts of cryosphere changes.

Bringing together world leaders, policymakers, scientists, and advocacy groups, the celebration aims to promote dialogue and collective action to protect glaciers and ensure sustainable water resources for future generations.
