The side event “Promoting the Five Years of Action: Mountains as key to accelerating the 2030 Agenda” will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 17 June from 13.15 to 14.30 EDT, convening global stakeholders to highlight the critical role of mountains in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Organized by the Government of Kyrgyzstan and co-led by the Governments of Andorra, Italy, Nepal, Peru and Palau, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the event will focus on progress made during the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions (2023–2027), which reaches its midpoint in 2025. This side event will provide a platform to share outcomes from major mountain-focused international conferences, discuss the forthcoming UNGA resolution on sustainable mountain development, and reinforce the urgency of integrating mountain issues into global climate and development processes.
