Organized by Bhutan's Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Employment (MoICE), Royal Textile Academy (RTA), FAO Bhutan, and the Mountain Partnership, this event will take place on 8 March 2025, from 08:00 to 17:00, at the Royal Textile Academy (RTA) in Bhutan. As part of the 2025 International Women’s Day celebrations, the forum will highlight the contributions of Bhutanese women artisans to sustainable fashion and ethical production, providing a platform for dialogue, skill-sharing and collaboration.
This forum will bring together Bhutanese women artisans, youth leaders, international fashion experts, government representatives and stakeholders from the textile and fashion industries. Participants will engage in discussions, knowledge-sharing and networking to promote sustainable mountain-based economies, strengthen traditional craft industries, and explore innovative ways to connect local artisans with global markets.
The Mountain Partnership will contribute to discussions on the role of mountain women and youth in sustainable economies, emphasizing their importance in biodiversity conservation, cultural heritage and local entrepreneurship.
This Stakeholder Exchange Forum provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the innovation and resilience of Bhutanese women artisans while fostering economic opportunities in sustainable fashion. By bridging local traditions with global markets, the event ensures the preservation of Bhutan’s rich textile heritage and empowers future generations of artisans and designers.
