Hybrid Event, 03/07/2025
As part of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP 2025), this international event will be held on 3 July 2025 in Lima, Peru. It will convene local and international experts to underscore the importance of mountain glaciers and the urgent need for their conservation.
Mountain glaciers are vital sources of freshwater, supporting both upstream and downstream communities and ecosystems. Their accelerated retreat due to climate change and industrial activities increases the risk of disasters, water insecurity, and the loss of cultural and economic assets.
The event will examine:
multiple values of glaciers – environmental, economic, cultural and spiritual
risks associated with glacier melting
local and global strategies for adaptation and conservation
the need for strengthened policies and coordinated action
The programme includes four technical presentations followed by a panel discussion with diverse stakeholders.
