Towards Ethical Fashion: Sustainable Threads for Africa–Italy Partnerships

14/05/2025

The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) will host the event Towards Ethical Fashion: Sustainable Threads for Africa–Italy Partnerships on 14 May 2025 from 14.30 to 16.30 at Pavilion 2 of Fiera di Roma during the International Development Cooperation Fair CODEWAY EXPO.

The event will explore how Italian development cooperation promotes decent work in the textile and manufacturing sectors, focusing on key labour rights such as freedom of association, the elimination of child labour, workplace health and safety, living wages and access to legal and social protections.

Participants will examine how ethical fashion can serve as a driver of sustainable development through inclusive and transparent supply chains. The panel will highlight the importance of partnerships between African and Italian actors—including institutions, local enterprises, trade unions and civil society—in fostering a more equitable and sustainable global textile sector.

This session reflects the growing commitment of small Italian textile and clothing businesses to responsible business practices, in line with evolving European regulations.

The event forms part of AICS’ broader efforts to support sustainable and inclusive value chains that create social and environmental value across regions.
