Virtual Event, 21/01/2025
The International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025 will be officially launched on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, alongside the proclamation of 21 March as the annual World Day for Glaciers starting in 2025. To mark this occasion, the Mountain Youth Hub will host a side event titled "Youth stories and solutions for glaciers’ preservation".
This event will amplify the voices of mountain youth, who face glacier-related challenges firsthand. For these communities, glaciers are more than natural formations—they are integral to their identity, heritage and livelihoods. Through inspiring stories and innovative, youth-led solutions, the session will highlight the essential role of young leaders in safeguarding these critical ecosystems for future generations.
The programme will begin with opening remarks by Rosalaura Romeo, Coordinator of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, and will feature personal insights and stories from young leaders, including Hangoma Kokulova, Juan Cruz Ghilardi Truffa, Tashi Lhazom and Kiara Aguirre Falcón. The event will conclude with closing remarks from Marggiori Elizabeth Pancorbo Olivera and a call to action for global collaboration, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in tackling the challenges of glacier loss.
