What they do
Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) – French Agency for Development – has been entrusted with a mandate by the French national authorities to contribute to economic and social development in its geographical areas of operation. It achieves this by financing and supporting development projects and programs, participating in the debate, research and dialogue with the relevant stakeholders. The aim of these actions is to contribute to more sustainable and shared economic growth, improve living conditions in the poorest regions and countries, contribute to preserving the planet and help stabilize fragile or post-conflict countries.

Means
Loans, subsidies, C2D (a mechanism to relieve indebted countries), guarantees, financing NGO projects, project preparation funds, FEXTE (a cooperation instrument), FICOL (a springboard fort he external action of French territories), Adapt’Action (technical assistance to implement national committments to fight climate change), the 2050 Facility (support for some 30 of the highest emitting and most vulnerable developing countries in their low-carbon transition), the Kiwa Initiative (grants and technical assistance for adaptation of the Pacific territories to the impacts of climate change), Minka (grants for peacebuilding), private equity.
