WASAG - The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture

WASAG, The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture

Water scarcity is a key challenge for agriculture and human development. In the near future, almost a quarter of the world's population will be living in countries with absolute water scarcity, where growing cities and economies compete for precious water resources.

Food security and poverty reduction are at risk of water scarcity.

Smallholder farmers and the rural poor are the most vulnerable since they rely on agriculture and natural resources for their livelihoods. Too often, they are overlooked and left behind. Climate change will further exacerbate and complicate the reality.

That's why, in 2017, FAO established the Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture, bringing together, since then, more than 75 partners from across the globe.
